PLEASE HELP motors is knocking? cant figure it out
you can eliminate lifter noise by adding about 12 oz (do not go past the full mark on the dipstick) of Marvel mystery oil to your crankcase. I had lifter noise on cold startup for as long as I owned my truck and one day I decided to give it a shot. now the lifter noise is completely gone. You mentioned that once it's warm it's almost completely gone (but you can still barely hear it), this is exactly how my motor acted. If you have a lifter problem, this will quiet it down, if you have rod knock, this will do nothing. actually if you had rod knock, you probably wouldnt be driving it.
start with the MMO in the oil and then see how it sounds.

Mine had a weird sound like you described @ 40k miles.
The oil pressure was around 30 psi while idling which I thought was low.
I put in a high volume pump and it brought the oil pressure to 40-50 psi cold and 90% of the tick went away.
It was an easy swap and only like $40.

Look up the lemon law. They have to fix a potential problem, but i beleive that they can make you pay a deductable of a maximum of $100 for any repairs.
thanks for all the info guys im know its not the valves tried lucas oil already, its is an auto trans and will check the flexplate is there anyspecial way to check and how? im goign to check it all out after work today and buy a mechanics stethascope to pin point the problem i let ya know tonight, the oil level is fine while cold and im sorry for my last post its when cold its 60psi at idle and 30 when under a acceleration but only after 5 mins of driving and after it warms its usually at a constate 30-40 thanks so mush for the help and ideas your giving me better than all the mechanics around here
Lucas is a thicker oil additive which may make your problem worse... if it is the lifters, I think (IMO) the lifters are sticking when cold which causes the tick. with the MMO, it frees up the stickiness so they can pump up the way they are supposed to.
well i still dont know, i bought a stethascope and its still confusing, i almost sounds like out of the oil pan a bit, the exhaust, and the back of the bell housing im going have to let it sit for about 3 hrs i dont think it was cold enough to stay knockin ill post back later tonight
As several have suggested check the flexplate and TC bolts. Remove the inspection plate on the bottom of the bell housing. You will be able to see several of the TC bolts. Retorque them.(You will have to look up the torque specs. I don't know them off hand) Mark the flexplate with a piece of chalk so you know where you started. After retorqing the bolts you see then bump the starter over until another set of bolts are visible.(You will need someone to help you.) While doing this check the flexplate for cracks.
well ill try the tc tommerow this is what i found out so far with the stethascope, i could hear it in the back of the motor, don't know where though, i could hear where the valve cover bolts out to the head, i could hear it undernith the distriobuter, but i didnt get a chance to go under the vehicle (raining) but its definitley in the back, ill update tommerow on what i find
Im not sure if anyone has covered this, but my motor mount heat sheild on the passenger side is a bit flimzie. It makes a lifter tap/knock/spark knock sound. See if yours is loose/ flimzie. I just flung it with my finger and you can listen to the sound it makes.
