aftermarket fuel filter
Hey guys. Has anyone installed an aftermarket fuel filter in the supply line to your ram? I ask because I want to do one soon, and wanted to know how you did it, what you would do differently, etc etc. I absolultely can't believe that dodge only relied on the sock in the tank to keep junk out of the fuel!
The stock filter seems to be working fine for a lot of people.
My truck is at 144k with no issues. [8D]
You'd just put it in the fuel line...probably as close to the tank as you can. You're probably going to notice a slight drop in fuel pressure though.

you would need to replace your fuel line between the hard line from the tank to the fuel rail. it is a quick disconnect setup that will require a tool to remove. I had installed a fuel cooler so I ran a 5/16" line (IIRC) from that frame connection to the front of the radiator, then back to the fuel rail. I left both ends of the original fuel line tie strapped in place so I could easily return it to stock if I needed to.
make sure you get a filter that has a high flow rate (maybe from summit racing).

awesome. I've had some issues with some, well, less than stellar gas in the mountains of colorado, so, I'm definatly going to do one. Is the hard line just a 5/16 steel line?

IIRC you can get the tool at most auto parts stores though. It's handy to have if you do a lot of work with fuel lines/rails.I also agree...make sure it's a high flow filter. Summit or JEGs would be the place to look.
AND the fuel line must be for fuel injection setups... normal fuel line will not work for long term, they are rated for 50psi max, the fuel injection line is something like 150?? I forget but you definately want the FI line.
cool. I have an aeromotive fuel filter that I took off of my drag car that's good for FI or carb that I was planning on using. I was just hoping to not have to cut the steel line if I could help it, but even so it's not a big deal to cut it and flare it to plumb the filter with steel braided line. Thanks guys!
