I know there's 1 guy that did it with the V10, but I don't know of anyone that's done it with the 318/360. And the guy that did it with the V10 didn't seem to have a lot of luck with it. He blew 2 or 3 of them up before switching back to the auto.

You're going to need to adapt the bellhousing...because it's definitely not going to bolt up [>:] Aside from that, I couldn't tell you what else you're going to run into.

How determined was that guy[sm=alcoholic.gif]

If it doesn't bolt up, that should be enough. Unless of course this is not your DD, and you have a couple of screamin' kids in the house. Then I would say, "make it work".

The heavy duty New Venture 5600 six speed manual transmission should also be considered for a swap. This New Venture Gear built trans has a great rep and was used behind the Cummins HO in Rams.

Note that the T56 used in the SRT10 has different ratios than T56's used behind GM products.
The tall 0.50 overdrive is a useful setting in combination with the ratios of gears 1-2-3.

Note that with the 300/Magnum vehicles using W5A580 Mercedes autos behind the 5.7 Hemi there is now a Chrysler bell housing to adapt to those too.
Note that the new ML series SUV has a 7 speed auto.

For those not aware, the venerable New Venture (now once again New
Process) NV5600 6 speed manual will be replaced sometime during the 2004
model year by the Getrag G56. The two key aspects of the G56 are:

- lower overall weight thanks to an aluminum case (compared to the
incredibly heavy iron case of the NV5600)
- higher power input

The ratios of the new G56 are a tad lower than the 5600 as well - the
5600 number is first, then the G56:
1st - 5.63 - 6.29
2nd - 3.38 - 3.48
3rd - 2.04 - 2.10
4th - 1.39 - 1.38
5th - 1.00 - 1.00
6th - 0.73 - 0.79
Rev - 5.63 - 5.74
This new 6 speed will also replace the NV4500HD used with the Hemi in
the 2500, 3500, and Power Wagon models.

The 1500 will also gain a Getrag 6 speed manual, this is the model 238
used with the 3.7 V6 and 4.7 V8 (no manual offered with the 1500 Hemi)

1st - 4.23
2nd - 2.53
3rd - 1.67
4th - 1.23
5th - 1.00
6th - 0.79

You were given bad information The pattern LOOKS similar, but it's not. The 318/360 have the same bellhousing pattern that they've had for YEARS. From 2003 all the way back to the 60s. The new 5.7L HEMI in the 3rd gen Rams shares this pattern. [8D] BUT, the V10 (iron & aluminum) and the Cummins have a completely different pattern. Not a small block...not a big block...their own special thing. So no...it's not the same.

For that same reason, the NV5600 would not work without an adapter though it would probably be a better choice for a transmission...there's more of them floating around.

you'd also need a different input shaft for the 360/318, the cummins and v10 have different input shafts and bellhousing patterns than the small blocks, it would be friggin sweet to have a nv5600 behind a 5.9 magnum.

Please check dates on thread before you hit the reply button. This thread is 14 years old........ it's almost old enough to drive itself.
