OK, I am writing on behalf of my F-I-L so bear with me. Truck has right close to 260k, and actaullay doesnt run bad, but as in the subject it is right now on its 5th Tranny, and now this one is going south.

1996 1500 Auto 4wd 360


Problem just started yesterday, truck will not start out in 1st gear unless its manually placed in 1st, it shifts up through fine, but wont go into o/d, if you leave the gear shift in D, it starts out in high gear.

Besides any possible guess on the problem at hand, will a 2500 or 3500 v8 tranny work in this application, and or what would be needed to do so. I have access to one, but dont wanna pull if it wont work out.

In detail, what has been done? Sounds like you may have an electric, cooler, line, or check valve problem . If the trans you are talking about in the 2500 or 3500 is a 360 (5.9) truck it sould fit fine.
