Default How often... ( multi question thread )

Clean your interior.

I just finished vaccuming my truck out, removing the back seat and all., and I must say, when dealerships do a clean, they suck. I found year old fries, candy, money, etc in there. I would've been ashamed to see all that if my truck was in the show.

How often should you, or do you change your diff oils? Im just wondering if its a 5000km thing like oil, or if its a couple years like Coolant/Trans.

Im so considering to have a coolant and rad flush when I get my oilchanged next week. or 500km whichever comes first.

any thoughts.. thanks.

No, it's not like oil....but it's not like transmission fluid or coolant either. Well, it is actually...because neither of those are "every couple years" items [&:] Well, coolant can be.

Transmission fluid & filter should be done around 30-35,000 miles. I know the manual says 60,000 (for A) and 112,000 (for B), but maybe that's why people are having so many problems with their transmissions.....people waiting that long to change the fluid [&:]

Transfer case should be serviced when the transmission is serviced.

Axles are 12,000 miles for severe duty use, and around 20-30,000 miles for normal use. This does not include the break-in period, which is around 5000 miles for a new truck. The owner's manual says "when needed"...lot of help it is [:'(] When doing this, you should ALWAYS pull the cover off to clean and inspect the case as well as the spider gears...and check for any shavings or pieces floating around.

Coolant should be done every two years, depending on the coolant used and the method that you change it with. Some people change it every 30,000 miles...some every 100,000. Personally, I've never changed the coolant on any of my vehicles because I've never gone more than 2 years without doing something that didn't involve removing half of it or MORE anyway [8D]

if you do any deep water offroading, change the gear oil as often as you can. if you let the axle sit under water for a few seconds, most of the time your fluid will come out very milky.

I got in the habit of dumping all my fliuds at once. Drain the diffs, t case, and tranny all at the same time. And it usually coincides with an oil change as well. I do mine around the 50,000km range and replace all my fluids with synthetic stuff. The way I see it, is if your draining one, you mind as well do them all at the same time.

As for coolant, Im in the same boat as Burning Rom. It usually ends up getting done less then every 2 years [&:]
