Paint work in preperation for 408
I've been at it again doing a bunch of paint work so things look a bit better under the hood and front suspension. Just got word my blocks ready to pick up from the machine shop so tomorrow I will be painting it with Duplicolor black ceramic gloss. Almost finished the m1 (port matched/sliver ceramic) as well so things will start going back together over the next 2 weeks give or take. Any how heres a few before, during and after pics of what I have been up too
Frame and steering box were pretty nasty looking and I was always trying to take shots to avoid showing it lol.
Suspension wasnt much better though the caliper paint was a step in the right direction last year
After a lot of scrapping, scrubbing and getting high on brake cleaner fluid the frame ended up llooking like this
I used POR15 paint on the frame & power steering box. Its a gloss black rust incapsulator that bonds to and stops rust. On the motor mounts I used Duplicolor red gloss ceramic paint. Silver cermic now ontop of the steering box as well.
Here is the supspension with the painted frame, spring cup, spindle and caliper painted. The blue looks washed out cause of the flash and is actually closer to Indy blue than this pic shows.
Painted a few other pieces as well
I am pretty happy with it is so far, finally feels like I am making some headway.
So what do you think?

Good Job Indy,
Looks Great!
one quick suggestion would be to remove the pads and spray paint the back of them black (of course making sure it doesn't get on the pad material [8D]), it would make the red stand out even more
I notice you have have drilled rotors, how do you like those?

I thought about the pads after painting the wear indiicators and clips, maybe next time
Put those KVR crossdrilled with carbon metalic pads on way back in 98. Brake dust on the stock pads/rotors was terrible. Went threw 2 sets of pads and the stock rotors in 24000miles. 32000 extreme miles later and I can barely see any wear on these rotors & the pads have a long way to go. Noticed shorter brake distances, less fade and no dust. Thinking of upgrading to better calipers, crossdriiled/slotted and braided lines for next year.
That sounds like a slick idea Tani, Ill have to give it a try. Want it to stay lookin nice under the hood.
Thanks 01 MDG
Wet mud cant stick to the Indy. Last year it ran 0-60mph in 4.13 seconds and averaged 1.12g force in that time. This year with a 25-30% increase in rwhp projected (approx 385rwhp last year) it should be 1 second or close to it faster again pulling even more g force. Factor in the wind as well and mud could never stick with those forces at hand

I like the POR15. I destroyed the can it was in after opening it 4 times, never had that kind of trouble getting into a paint can before lol. Almost like a liquid powder coating so when it dries its like a hard plastic. Find out how durable it is soon enough when I start installing the engine and everything else.
Need a BIG gear puller to get the power steering pulley off so I can paint the bracket the pumps on. Still want to powdercoat 5 pieces, tb hat, dipstick, water pump tube, main and sub brackets for the s/c as well. Not sure if Ill take it to a shop or get a kit from Eastwoods and do it myself.
