Default Tranny Modification Questions

I tow...a lot. Have a lawn care and landscaping business. I also have a 96 4x4 with the 5.2L. It's on 33x12.50 all terrains now. The motor has been rebuilt along with the tranny right before I bought it. I'd like to do a few tranny mods before I tear something up. I know it would be in my best interest to install a new better tranny cooler and a larger pan. For those of you who put on new coolers, did you totally replace the one that was on there already, or did you just add it in line? The larger pan is pretty self-explanatory. Also, this tranny seems to spend a lot of time changing gears. Drops a good few RPM before shifting. I loose a fair amount of speed this way especially going up hills. I know a shift kit will firm up the shifts, but will it make it shift faster, so I can solve this problem? Will they work well with towing? Any other suggestions?

I buypassed my radiator tranny cooler all together. put a 23k rated cooler in front of the radiator and have had no tranny issues in the 50k miles that i've put on it.
