99 Ram 318: Towing Power
I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 4x4 ext cab short box with a 318 and a 5 speed. I bought myself a 7'x14' V-Nose H&H enclosed trailer, and I was wondering what’s the safe towing capacity of this truck? It came with a factory installed hitch (I think class 4) and the factory 7 pin harness. (I also installed an electronic brake controller)
Anywho, the trailer empty is 2500 lbs, and i'll probably be loading it up another 1500 lbs or so for a total of about 4-4500 lbs.
I will be traveling about 700 miles (1100 km's) straight one way to my final destination, just wondering if i'll be alright or not. I have 285/75R16 tires with a 3.55 gear ratio.
Of course i'll only use 4th gear, and limit myself to about 90-95 KM/H. Anything I should do or look out for? Thanks guys

dude your truck will do fine with that trailer .I think you max weight is about 6500 to 7000 lbs.
I have the same truck but with a 360 auto and I pull a 7000 lbs 29 ft travel trailer and a 19 ft boat and I do fine
