Yes, the axle had scuffed area around the axle under where the bearings were.

 

was it the axle bearings or the carrier bearings.

If it was the axle bearings you could have gotten and axle rebuild kit, which comes with different bearings.
Thats why I asked. Basically to tell you tat you could have save $300.

i think he ment that the axle shafts were scorn .. eventually leading to failer or seal leakage.

 

That sounds kind of like what he told me. I should have took a picture. I still think he said it was under the axle bearing. It wasn't a groove. Just an 1/4" to 3/8" area that was cupped sort of like a front tire. Thats why he asked what kind of weight I've been carrying. Personally, I thought it could be cleaned up and new size used after seeing them. What do you do. The guy calls and says I need new ones. Going to Nags Head for the 4th of July. Warranty would be good. Get it done. Has an excellent reputation. Everyone I know uses him. Drag cars, trucks, and 1200 HP mud bog trucks. Goes to church with my buddy.
