If there was play in the shaft, where would it be, at the joint? Everything external to the box appears in tact, so I think ur right about it being the box.
You mentioned an adjustment, how is that done and what does it entail?
Thanks

TSB for steering adjustment: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1997/19-10-97.htm

There is a universal joint in the intermediate shaft (between the column and the steering gear) that wears out. There is a borgenson replacement available at the link I posted further up in this thread.

my play comes from inside my steering box... make that adjustment to tighten it up and it should be fine. too much of an adjustment the wheels wont self center and you will have to manually bring the wheels back to center after making a sharp turn... could be dangerous

On one of the posts further up someone mentioned an adjustment for the steering box, is that a possibility? Have you ever had to do it before?

Thanks for that info, how's that adjustment made? How difficult is it?

Ok... pop the hood.... look directly down and youll seeing the steering box... on top of the steering box there is a nut kinda in the center of the top plate with a small threaded rod/bolt with an allen key on the top of it... loosen that nut up... turn that threaded rod/bolt DOWN like 4 turns.. tightten up that nut and take it for a spin... adjust it as needed... like i said before though... driving that bolt down TOO much will have adverse effects and could possible damage the steering box!

Hey thanks alot, I'll give it try tomorrow and see how it goes! If the wheel doesn't get stuck, and I don't plow into anyone it'll be a success!!! j/k Wish me luck!

The best adjustment is to snug the nut down and back it off 3-5mm of rotation

Ok I'll do that! The only thing that concerns me is that this all seemed to start happening in a short amount of time. But I'm sure I'll know pretty quickly if the adjustments gonna help or not, and if not I guess I'll be getting a new steering box! I checked that site that you had in your post, they didn't seem to have a box for my yr (99), it seems the latest they went to was a '92 unless I just overlooked it! Thanks again!

I just went and looked and noticed that now [&:] They might be out of them right now. You could email them and see what the deal is. I know they used to have them...3 different ones in fact for the 2nd Gen Ram.
