Default Try and figure this one out....(Tranny)

Was goin down the interstate, was on a slight incline at 70 mph in OD in an auto tranny, runnin around 2200 rpms. I hit a bump in the road, the rpms quickly jump up to 2600 and then back down to about 2200. I figured when I hit the bump it pulled my foot off the gas and then back on, tricking the tranny into thinkin it was about to downshift....which i guess thats normal too when ya do that with the gas pedal but hell i dont know. Anyway, every time I'd hit a bump the same thing would happen and I kept my foot as steady as possible. The rpms would jump up like it was about to kick down a gear then come right back down adn it did it quite quickly.

Also, when goin down the road in OD around 65-70 mph in OD, the rpms will slowly creep up by 400, sometimes 500 rpms wtihout changing speed or gears....and then they'll drop back down to normal RPMs after about 5 or 10 seconds. Then after another 5 or 10 seconds it'll do it again.

[sm=boohoo.gif] please tell me its not my tranny !!!! [sm=boohoo.gif] my tranny <<< [sm=shootshoot.gif]

When I am running down the interstate with OD off and the cruise control on my RPMs will jump about 200-400 and right back down. It does it really fast though, fast enough that you don’t have time to see it happen unless you are looking at the tac when it does it. You can definitely feel and hear it though. And yesterday it felt like it completely disengaged, revved the motor and then re-engaged. That is the first time that it has done that. This tranny only has about 20k on it, and the truck just turned 70k. I'll probably be picking up pieces in a few weeks.

2001ramsport....when your TPS was acting up, did yours change speed with the change of rpms or did the speed and power stay the same?

by the way, we have the exact same truck....color and everything.... =) blue is best.

Okay i put a new TPS in it and i only drove it a few miles and the TC didnt seem to be unlocking a whole lot on flat ground. It did unlock and come up about 600-700 rpms without changing gears or speed on a grade. It IS normal for the TC to unlock on a slight grade in OD right?

mine will not unlock unless I give it a little gas.Try this, when your going about 50mph with your foot on the gas, lightly apply the brake and the T.C. should unlock. IF this duplicates your problem, you may have a bad brake light switch.

So, what you're saying is that if it does the same thing when I barely apply the brake, then the reason for it unlocking any other time is due to a brake light switch? I DO have a trailer brake package setup, maybe that could have something to do with it? It's my understanding that it's normal for the TC to unlock and lock at certain times while accelerating.

Yes the T.C. will unlock and lock under a load that's normal.but to unlock when you hit a bump in the road is not, sounds like a electrical problem to me.what I'm saying is that I would look at the brake light switch first.I'm assuming that your C.E. light is not on.
