Default rear diff and front diff

ok i'm looking at changing out the diff oils...

is there a gasket in there?? i've been assuming there is one but the local napa never seems to have one in stock.

how much oil does one put in there anyway? i was just going to drain it and squirt some new stuff up to the fill plug.

also does anyone know the torque on those bolts to put them back in?

thanks..

there isnt a gasket. The factory uses red gasket maker. I use blue.
I forget the torque spec but I tighten mine pretty tight, not armstrong tight. I actually use the german torque spec on it. Goodentight.

My install kits came with gaskets. They are hanging on the wall. The guy that set my gears up said to just put a 1/8 bead of sealant around the cover and go. No leaks. Used a small ratched so less torque was applied.

changed mine twice in alst couple months. usded blue gasket maker. just throw a nice bead of it on there, and make circles around the bolt holes. dont worry if some gets inside the diff, its not gonna hurt anything. i did it twice like that, no leaks.

an easy way to fill is to buy the gallon size containers of gear oil, and get one of those $7 hand pumps anywhere like autozone or strauss. just fill it til it starts to puke back out the hole, then pop the plug/bolt back in.

i also did this, and i went and got some rv silicone gasket maker, the fluids, and used a little hand pump to pump the old out into a bucket, and then fill it up to the hole with the new.Really easy if u ask me. if you have the posi trac you wanna make sure u get the additive either separate or some of the diff. fluids come with it added in,you just gotta look.
