Funny noise - brake cable??
Yup, I've got a real "squeaky" noise in the rear wheels. It's not brakes. it's sounds like metel rattling/squeeking together. So I got under there and the park brake cable is loose- right where it secrues in the rear drums (on both wheels). I tried to tighten it, but it would tighten up. The parking brake still works fine. Do I have to the the whole assembly apart to correct the problem? Can anyone steer me in the right directon? I've got an '01 Ram Quad with rear drum (not disc).
Hmm, AFAIK, it just pushes thru the backing plate and locks in with 3 tabs inside the drum...my only thought would be to remove the drum, remove the cable from the lever, push the 3 tabs and remove the cable from the backing plate...take some electrical tape or something similar and wrap the part that goes thru the backing plate, test it a few times so it's nice and snug...bend the 3 tabs out and resecure the cable.
Or, replace the backing plate and cable.

Electrical tape is kinda scethcy, the wrap used is generally made out of a treaded material. I'd definately pull the drum apart, they're not impervious to debris, check the springs and the adjustmants, it might just be a pad (or what's left of a pad)rubbing. If that doesn't work, go with fiveliterbtr and replace the backing plate and cable, drums are an easy fix.
