The Y-pipe and cat on mine OEM where all one piece.All welded together

 

Technically, all the y-pipes and cats are one piece on both the 5.2 and the 5.9. Simply because the whole exhaust is considered one piece, sure it’s made up of different components, such as cats and mufflers(the 5.9 and the 5.2 are exactly the same). The y-pipe is welded into the exhaust just before the cat so that a pre and post o2 sensor can me bunged in through a single pipe in order to get a true diagnostic from the combinations of both sides of the block (2-8 cylinders and 1-7 cylinders). Sorry I didn’t clarify earlier, but I did have my cat, as well as my entire exhaust, replaced, unfortunately, this was before Chrysler discovered the problem. Back in ‘01 is when I replaced the cat with a magnaflow cat. Plus, I never trust the factory(In most cases, I try not to replace the OEM part with another OEM part that failed in the past, unless it is a proven part), I use the dealer to make suggestions and then I bring it some where else to correct the problem. I suggest, everyone with a gen 2 truck replace the cat with a non-OEM cat.
