A few days ago i noticed a rattiling noise after i came to a stop, it started getting worst and worst. And now anytime i rev up the engine it makes the noise. Is this the cat and if it is how much should it cost to fix or should i go to the dealer since they said that the cats are bad. And its a 99 quad cab with a 5.2

I believe you should go to the dealership as letters were mailed by Dodge to a lot of Dodge owners about the exact issue you are having.

Absolutely replace the cat, these trucks are notorious for their horrible cats. Mine went bad after only 20,000 miles. It was the kick in the *** that I needed to replace the entire exhaust though. I wouldn't recommend going to the dealership. They will want to replace it with a stock one that falls under strick federal admissions that have to be abided by chrysler. An aftermarket one, such as a magnaflow, flows a 100% better for about 1/6th of the price. Bring it to an exhaust shop and they'll do the work for not much more than a 100 bones minus the cost of the cat. Definately worth it. The cat might not be your problem, but definately replace it now! IT WILL GO BAD AND COST A TON IN POWER AND GAS. If the problem persists, hey, there's always the forum

I got my truck about a month ago or so.I needed a cat when I bought it I knew that.Since the cat is part of the Y-Pipe it is quite expensive.$439.00 expensive to be exact.YOu can get an aftermarket one but you should be eligable for a brand new one from Dodge.I walked into the dealership showed them my VIN and 1 week later they replaced my cat for free.I notice a HUGE difference in power,I added a magnaflow after the cat but dont waste the replacement at the dealership.

You paid $439 for a cat? Sorry to say it man but they took you out to the cleaners. You can get them online for under 100 and i only paid 200 for my high flow installed.

You didnt quite read my post did you..I got it for free as part of the recall. And yes even a aftermarket OEM cat is 360-400 bucks because it is the Ypipe as well.I am telling him to go to the dealer and see if he falls under the warranty recall for the cat.Quite worth it.And hell no I wouldnt pay 439 for a cat.I would have gutted it or Fabbed my own before that would happen
