Default How long do they usually last?

Im looking at a truck online, a 2001 2500 ext. cab short box 4x4, w/ the cummins h.o. 24v and a 5spd. It has 160,000 on the engine. This is EXACTLY what I looking for, and I havent found any others like it, so I was wondering if these trucks hold up for 160,000 or just the motors do. The truck (in the pictures at least) is super clean, even the engine bay. Do parts usually need to be replaced on a weekly basis at this amount of mileage? The Reccommended overhaul for these motors is 350 grand, so im not really concerned with that, its the truck im concerned with. Any insight would be appreciated!

i have 165,000+ on mine, wheel the f*&k out of it, and it still runs well.

with that one, you'd get the cummins and the heavy duty 1 ton axles...i wouldn't worry about the mileage if the truck was maintained well.

Actually, he'd only be getting the 3/4 ton axles

And I would worry about that motor a bit. The 24 valve diesels weren't as bulletproof as the 12 valves.

I dont know that much when it comes to diesels but my dad goes out of town everyweek and he puts 500 miles on his a week. He just turned 150,000, and his is running very strong pulls my sisters horse trailer like it isnt even there. His is a powerstroke. but i believe that diesel last longer than gas. I dont think anything will fall apart with the actual frame and bodywork of the truck. As long as it doesnt have any rust you should be fine

Its a 2500, so 3/4 Ton, and its @ 160 right now. Ide only be using it for a winter truck, becuase my s-10 blazer sucks ***** in the winter, but idk how much is left in that motor. The truck itself, the frame/body/int. is all spotless, even the motor, looks like brand new. I just dont know tho, 160,000 is alot. Its the 24V btw.

It has been my experience that if the truck looks good, they probably did the required maintenance. 160 on a well maintained diesel ain't nothing..........heck 160 on a well maintained gasser is nothing.

Exactly. At 160K, a diesel has just been broken in. Those damned things will run 500K miles easily.
