Default Help needed

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 with a 318 and an automatic tranny with overdrive. My problem is when I accelerate to pass someone or take off from a stop and my airconditioner is on it is like the vacume is taken away from the air conditioner. I am thinking that I might have a vacume leak somewhere or one that is crossed up. Any ideas out there?

Mine does the same thing. I think it is coming from one of the hoses from above the compressor behind the glove compartment. It's a pain the @#$ to get to though. If that's not it I don't know where else it could be coming from. I've checked most of the visible vacuum lines to no avail. Let me know if you find anything out.

You mean that the A/C stops blowing cold when you gun it? Normal ops. The compressor cuts out to stop robbing the engine.

No what I mean Bill is that it stops blowing out the vents and starts blowing out either the defroster or the floor. It still blows cold air.

You have a vacuum leak somewhere. They can be buggers to find.

Check first to see if this service bulliten applies to you: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1996/24-01-96a.htm

Well, so much for that. We're seeing a lot of this lately. You're down to checking for cracked, loose or disconnected vacuum lines, both under the hood and dash.

Read here: http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/may/TECH2TEC.HTM

and here: http://www.aa1car.com/library/vacleak.htm

Hope it's not a leaking gasket.

I had the Same problem... it was the CAD units vacuum lines from the transfer case. both of them apeared to be connected but upon closer inspection the plastic lines were craked near the rubber ends. if this is the problem... i have the part number and its 32 bucks from the dodge dealer. Hope you find it.. i know it can be frustrating. you are on the right path.
