98 ram 4x4 clunking badly need help
Hi guys im new to this site. recently my truck has been clunking really bad when i go to slow down and you can really feel it underneath you. Notice it more when i have the atv on its really loud and i know its not from braking also when i was on the highway it sounded like my truck kept revving up the odd time but the tranny seems to be working fine dont notice any slip could this be a u joint or the tranny?
My main drive shaft u-joints clunked hard while starting off from a dead stop. Also try backing up a bit to unload the u-joint before putting it back into drive. If it clunks, its probably the u-joint.
ok guys ive checked the u joints they all seem ok they are still the originals if they were dry and werent loose could they still be bad? Another thing i put the truck in neutral and there was play in the drive shaft and it sounded like a clunk is that normal when its in park the drive shaft dont move at all. It clunked today with out any weight in the truck but it seems to do it after ive been driving for 10 minutes then it starts the clunk goes away and comes back trucks got 113000 km on it ive had it used for 2 years had the tranny fluid changed 2 since then and its got the recommended tranny fluid my cousin did it and they know there dodges hes a mechanic and thtas all they drive. when he changed my fluid and transfer case fluid he checked for play in the transfer case there was some but he wasnt sure how much there should be so i dont know maybe if thats what it is. noise sounds like its coming from underneath driver side thanks
