I've had an Alpine alarm since the truck was new. It has a key fob the size of the factory one that locks and unlocks the doors.I don't use the alarm much unless shopping or in a bad area. It has an extra button that could work a remote start if I had of opted to install it. Works great. Keyless is nice. Expecially in bad weather.

my truck had a keyless entry and i had a viper alarm put in, very simple one button unlocks and locks the doors and sets the alarm, my alarm is shock sensitve around the truck and disables the ignition when it is set, very handy if someones wants to try and steal it

My truck had keyless entry stock. The module is under the steering column on the right side in 1997. It looks like an add on or afterthought to me when you look at it. It worked great at close ranges but not at longer ranges like these newer ones do.

I didn't have a panic button to my knowledge but I could be wrong. About a year ago I had a Viper alarm installed. It is the V891 I believe and I love it. It has the 2-way communicator so if I’m within a 1/4 mile of the truck it tells me if the alarm goes off. It also has remote start from that distance. It has door sensors, shock detection, ignition cutoff, and a tailgate / tonneau cover sensor (Mercury switches), hood switch and speaker for the alarm. It even has a valet switch.

The coolest thing it does is allows you to leave the truck running to go run inside to a place quickly. Basically you can push the remote start button twice while the truck is already running, turn the key off and take it out but the truck stays on. Then you get out arm the alarm and go into the gas station or convince store or whatever. Then come back out and get in the same way you would with a normal remote start sequence. This is very cool for those quick stops on a trip, keeps the truck warm / cool and reduces wear on the starter.

It also had add on capabilities as well. It could be setup to roll windows up and down, you could have a motion sensor, and much more I believe. Best part is it isn't noticeable or intrusive. It has a small receiver on the windshield that hides behind the mirror and the audio horn under the hood is very small and mounts to the firewall. Under the steering column is where the module ends up and with a proper install it looks good. Overall I love this type of alarm and I would put something like this on all my vehicles in the future.

You can buy one on EBay for around $170 or less I believe as well.
