1 Ton GM brake upgrade
Will doing the swapping of my brake cylinder to the GM 1 ton work? I've got a 1500 with a 9 1/4 rear end. I've been wanting to do something for the drums in the back but nothing too costly and it sounded like this might work the best. I tow a 24 ft powerboat so I can easily use better braking. Thanks for the suggestions and help.
I remember reading a post a few days ago that for us 1500 guys we should swap to the Dodge 3500 wheel cylinders instead of the GM dually cylinders. Not 100% sure though so wait for Burning Rom to chime in.
It's true I suggested swapping the Dodge 3500 cylinders in, as they're not quite as big as the GM cylinders. I suggested it because I wasn't sure if the master cylinder on the 1/2 tons had enough capacity for them. Someone commented that it does....so I guess you can go with the GM Dually cylinders. I've only dealt with 3/4 ton and 1 ton swaps before though, so I can't say for sure. [&:]
Im actually really considering this.
Just wondering say I used the GM cylinders, how would I know if the Master Cylinder was having trouble?
If I were to use the 1 ton cylinders im not sure if the 3500 came in anything other than dually so would i use the Dodge 1-ton dually cylinders or regular rear wheel cylinders?
Thanks for the help

The 1ton cylinders were all the same for Dodge...it wouldn't matter. Only GM used different sizes depending on the rear axle.
I have Wagner cylinders in my truck (because that's what bumper to bumper sells) but the NAPA ones will work. The guy that told me about this specifically told me to use NAPA ones, but the Wagner ones seem to be working fine.

So is anyone on here actually going to try it on their 1500 or are we waiting for a guinea pig? I'm going to do the 3500 from Dodge just to be safe but if GM works better than I'll be switching them out.
I'll be the guinea pig. I'm looking around for the best price right now for the 1-ton Chevy dually cylinders. I've got a feeling that I'm going to be hearing the RWAL engaging a LOT when it rains.
Ahhhh ... the price one pays for progress ...
