Thanks for the tip on the air bag. I didn't think of that.

I am repacing it becasue I brought it to an A/C shop to have it charged and they told me the evaporator was leaking and needed to be replaced. Then they quoted me $700 to fix it.

You're a braver soul than I. That requires a dash pull, yes? I do ALMOST all of my own maintenance. I'll do suspensions, brakes, most engine work, electrical, cooling, you name it. I'll pull trannys and axles ... but I took it in to the shop to have the heater core changed out because it required a dash removal (that's when the semi-trained monkeys broke my freakin bezel).

Luck to you, Sir.

... am I really being afraid of nothing? Just seems awfully complicated to me ... and I usually have to have the truck back together in a couple of hours to go to work.

Well I try to do all of my own work. It just cost to much to have someone else do it for you. And the good thing is that it is not my daily driver. I have a 2002 neon for that. I will take some pictures while I am in there to post. It should'nt be too hard. The shop told me 3-4 hours.

What takes them 3-4 hours will take you about twice as long, because you're going to have a learning curve. They've done this job several times whereas this is your first attempt. I had my Ford Escort dash apart in 4 hours the first time, but by the third time I could have it apart and back together again in 2.

It's not too bad of a job.

I'd suggest downloading the factory service manual here: https://dodgeforum.com/m_340929/tm.htm

Also, you might want to look around over on the www.dieseltruckresource.com boards. It's a common topic over there, and I remember seeing semi-detailed instructions at one point.

Good luck!
