Default Looking at a 94 Ram

my good friend has a 1994 Black regular cab Ram 1500, no 4 wheel drive. Pickup, it's got 175k miles on it and shes willing to let it go for around 500 bucks, And I have been looking for a good reliable truck to drive durring the winter months and back and forth 75 miles a day to work. My main consern is, How long do these trucks last, and What's the most important thing to watch for. Any help would be apriecheated. Thanks.

Welcome to DF!

What motor does it have in it?

A 2wd truck definitely wouldn't be my choice for a winter beater [&:] They're hard on gas, and rwd is never good on ice/snow, but that's just my thoughts on it.

Does she have any records as to what's been done to the truck? There are a few things that can/usually go wrong by that point in a 2nd generation Ram's life.

I have to ask her about the records, I think her father handed it down to her, she is looking for a car now so she wants to sell the ram, also the front end, needs a grill and the hood is a little bent. other then that she has had no problems with it and the body is in great condition. As for the winter, I know that 2WD is not the best but I mainly want somthing for back and forth to work on the thruway everyday so i dont have to rack miles up on my Grand Prix/ project car. i just figure if i have to ill throw some sand bags in the back and put some good all season tires on it, and maybe get snow tires in the rear if needed. Im not too worried about gas cause it's gonna be mostly highway driving. even if it's only like 14 mpg, I dont mind at all. like i asked before though, I just need a rough estiment on the life of these, Ill find out if it's the 5.9 or the 5.2 maybe later tonight or tomorrow. And she says shes dont some tune up stuff to it like plugs and wires, but as for anything else i donno, it's also an automatic. Thanks again
