I bought a 2000 Ram 1500 the other day as a second driver, so I could give my 97 Sport a rest, but I am having a problem that I cant trace down.
At idle it runs rough and keeps dieing on me. It starts right up, but just dont run right. I have replaced the IAC, the plugs, and cap and rotor. The only code it had showing was for the speed sensor and I replaced it. When you drive it, it runs fine, a bit sluggish but not bad. Could you guys point me in another direction to check or something I may be missing. Will the TPS throw a code? Im just wondering if it is bad. Any help would be great, cant afford to keep buying parts. Thanks

 

new truck and no info or pic[sm=icon_stickpoke.gif] does it seam like a fuel problem?

 

The TPS can often cause speed sensor related codes, when it itself is bad. Just a thought. I'm not saying it IS the cause, but it very well could be.

 

Well I picked up a new TPS today, so I will put it on tonight and see if that helps.

And Tani1500- I will get pic's up later, just been rying to figure out this problem. I was wondering if it was fuel related, but I cant tell. I was just hoping for some idea's that I may have not thought of.

 

Ok, Put the new TPS on, still the same, checked the code it kicked again and this time it was just for the upstream O2 sensor. Or the front precat one. Will a Bad O2 sensor cause it to run badly or idle badly, And try to die all the time?

 

Anyone have any idea's?

Towards the center is a bunch of O2 Sensor stuff. Even how to test it.

 

Ok, I take a look, also I am going to run a compression test on it later just to be sure. I noticed today, while driving, the boggy comes and goes, sometimes it will cruise right along and others it will kick and buck like crazy when I try to give it gas. This thing has me totally lost.

 

Ok, checked my compression, all cylinders are at 120PSI, #2 and #3 cylinder the first time only read 90, but upon a second check they showed 120 also. All cylinders seem to be firing, not sure how strong, I just did the old pull the plug wire while it was running trick. So now I am totally lost, I have no clue what to do other then go to the dealer and see if they can scan it for something I missed.
