MPG experiment (update)
O.K. guys... just got back from Washington where I racked up 2430 miles over 9 days. Up in Kingston WA (near Seattle), I had time to install a fuel cooler up by the radiator which was part of the experiment that I am in the middle of and observed a 6% increase in MPG. Most of the gas bought was @ Cheveron or Union 76 stations with the exception of 1 <no-name> station which I noticed my truck running like crap pretty quickly so I filled up again w/chevron asap (post cooler fillup). On the way up it was a straight shot on I5 and on the way back it was around Olympia national park, along the WA & OR coast then trough Eugene over a 5200'peak towards Klamath Falls. I would have expected the straight shot to have better mpg's since there were no detours or sight seeing...

This mod put the cooler up by the radiator which is a potential hazard in the event of an accident, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. Total cost was $40 for the cooler & $80 for fuel injection line & clamps. You will need approx 15' of FI line to do the install. If anyone is interested in details on how it's installed let me know and I will add more details.
The next step would have been to wrap the fuel rail to prevent heat soak, but the tape was not available where I was. I was lucky to find the FI hose.
The corrected data is what I roughly calculated as my odometer error. Three times I was radared by the roadside monitors & it indicated a -6~7 mph error in my speedo. On the trip through Oregon I decided to track how much error there was through the roadside mile markers & found a 4.3-4.4 miles error over a 50 mile stretch. So I split the difference & called it 4.35 = 8.7 over 100 miles = 8.7% error (someone can correct me if I'm wrong in my figurin').
A couple of other things to mention... I dropped off 2 of my kids when i installed the cooler so the gear & head count dropped about 300 lbs after the install. I figure in a 5500 lb truck, it won't notice it but I should mention it.
One final note... the last entery on the table of 296.5 included a stretch of 120 miles or so at speeds of 85ish (cough it wasn't me I swear man cough) since we decided to cut the trip short by 1 day & head home on Saturday night.

wait steve i have a really stupid question. were was the thread for this and this is your 2001?
never mind, maybe if i pay more attention, i hope your not getting 14 mpg in your new truck

yeah, someone asked me about the fuel cooler and i though i'd bring this to the top in case anyone else was looking for a 6% increase in fuel milage... this was on the 2000, the 2005 is getting about 17
Wow, I must read more about this... Oh yeah steve, I still plan on buying your intake, unless you already sold it (if someone forks out the cash before me do it!). I'm in the middle of a big financial crisis and am trying to get out of it =( Will update you later about it
there are probably other ways to implement it but for the most effective spot it should be in the front. It is a potential hazzard!
the intake is still there, someone did ask about it though...
