Default Common trans problem?

When I first start my truck in the morning and put it in rev or drive. It takes a few seconds for it to engage. My old jeep had the same problem. Anyone else have this problem when you first start off in the day? 99 dodge 1500

Pump problem? Maybe a valve body problem. Could be the TC is being allowed to drain.

Did you check the fluid level?

Try letting it sit in neutral for a few seconds before slipping it into drive. The pump won't circulate fluid when it's in Park.

My truck does it when it sits for a few days.

It's full. I am going to do the pan gasket and filter change tomorrow. Not a big problem, just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Make sure you use ATF+4 fluid. Autozone has it as do some others.

As ROM said let it idle in neutral for a few before taking off. This also applies to extended parking with the truck idling. The fluid will heat up since it is not flowing through the cooler, so consider neutral with the parking brake on.

Maybe this is a rookie question but; is it a good idea to let the the vehicle sit for a few seconds, in neutral, upon the first start-up of of the day?

I hope so, that would give me a good excuse to do a neutral drop each morning out of my drive-way!

Yeah, it is a good idea as it gets the fluid moving before the truck starts moving. Neutral drops are a bad idea though

Well I can't get rid of the leak. Looks like it is leaking out of the converter. Common?

if its leaking out of the trans that is not a good sign. i just blew my trans and it poured fluid out of the bellhousing and white smoked everywhere. i blew the converter apart.
