Default Electrical Troubleshooting Advice

I own a 1997 Ram 1500 sport, 5.9 360. 62k miles.
Recently my Ram started stalling after letting off the gas before the engine is completely warmed up. Once warm it runs fine except for a very low idle. After pulling the connector for the IAC valve and getting no change in idle, I did the standard voltage test between the purple/black and brown/white wires to find there is no voltage. Searching the threads I found a vague reference to someone with a similar problem which turned out to be the computer. I tend to try things myself if at all possible and I am wondering if anyone knows where I might start in order to determine whether or not to just buy a new PCM. Any suggestions would be helpful.

P.S. Third Dodge, first Ram, zero regrets.
