Pulled a Ford out!!
Well,
This truck we are told is supposed to be worthless since it is not a Ford or Chevy. I am also a Ford truck fan as I have a Sporttrack 4x4 as a company truck.
I got a call this afternoon from one of our field technicians at my engineering firm who was just issued a new 2006 full size Ford super cab 4x4. He got it stuck in about 8" of clay & water up hill and the front bumper got wedged. He called me and asked if Jr. could pull him out. We hooked up the chain to the frame, and tried out the 4 wheel drive for the first time. Jr. had just installed a new K&N filter an hour before the call and was happy to see what the truck could do. Pulled it out going uphill without even spinning a tire and the truck didn't even breath hard.
Transmission has an auxillary cooler, just changed the fluid & filter (Amsoil).
Take care of your truck, & it should take care of you (and others).

Well I'm glad to see you can put your dodge to good use. Being that i am a fan of both ford and dodge i'm not going to bash anyone, everybody gets stuck sometime. But it is nice to see that you had no problems pulling him out.
Not trying to bash any makes or models, because i have lots of friends who drive the other guys, im the only one with a dodge. I too have similar things happen, i get stuck yes, but any avid off-roader will. it just happens to dodges much less than the other guys. This is mostly in part to the solid front axle, as it is far superior to IFS (what the other guys have, especially new trucks) but it does sacrafice on road quality. obviously dodge did care about that when they built them, but just wanted a true workhorse, which they got. Thats why a stock dodge can usually keep up with a "modded" other guy on the trail. Again, not bashing, just saying!
Oh yea, get a hitch, that way you dont have to get dirty when you try to attach the tow strap to the frame. so much easier with a hitch that has a big hook on it, thats what i use!

I have winches on both my trucks
10,000 ramsey and a 12,000 warn
And the ramsey has seen way more use, even to pull out police cars

(For anyone inquiring on purchasing a winch, dont tell your friends you own one, they will phone you at the oddest times for your "help")

im not going to bash anyone but ive also owned ford and chevy trucks, but i have to say my second gen ram is by far the besttruck ive ever owned.ive had an f 100 a 80 dualy, a ranger, an f 250, and now my ram 1500 nothing beats it. my dualy comes close but it was only 2 wheel drive. oh yeah and i had 2 broncos, worse trucks i ever drove, blew 3 302`s in them they sucked more than any truck i ever had.
dodge guy forever here.

haha thats so true. i dont even have a winch and i already get those phone calls. my friend that lives 40 mins from me called me last week and said he got stuck and no one else could pull him out. when i got there the entire truck ( also a ram) was laying on its frame and the tires just dug huge ruts around him. that sucked haha
rogmatt, if your going to be towing. and you have a hitch. i would really recommend buying a good size tow strap. i have a 3inch one rated at like 30,000 pounds and its necked down to 2 inch at the loops. put the loop of that into the hitch and put the pin throw it. also tow staps are much better. they strech alittle and arnt as bad for the truck. they also are much safer if they break. if you break a chain or even if it pops off it can kill someone. also on that note never use a shackel to join to straps together. there have been people killed by that when the strap broke and it sent the shackel flying like a missle. if anyone wants to see the artical on that ill go dig it up.

Nice write up on the strap into the hitch. Never thought about that one. I've never had the chance to pull out the big boy's but if I get there I'm sure they will come loose.
Although I've got so much at the wheel torque that I can't even stop the wheels spinning in 4X4 Hi when on ice or snow. I wish sometimes these things came with a grany gear like some of the new trucks.
