Default Looking for tranny specialist in NJ

Hi Everyone. This looks like a great forum.

I have a 2001 4x4 5.9l Ram Quad Cab SB w/about 48k miles on it. The tranny recently started slipping when going from 1st to 2d gear, and it is most pronounced with a load on it. When it starts slipping, the engine revs, but my forward motion starts dying. If I baby it, I can get it to eventually shift, and the problem does not seem to continue (although I continue to baby it) after getting past 2d. Based on my search of this forum, it could be any of a number of things, including my need for a new tranny. If I do need a new tranny, I may upgrade to something from APS Precision. However, I don't want to take my truck to a stealership, so I'm looking for a good transmission specialist in central NJ. I've sent an email to APS to see if they have anyone they deal with, but I also thought someone here might have someone they trust. I don't know jack about tranny's, but once the lease on my car is up, I'd like to make the Ram my daily driver. So I'm interested in a bullet proof tranny, shift kit, deep oil pan and anything else that people here would consider when replacing/repairing a tranny. Thanks.

Anyone?

What about the transmission specialist chains like Aamco? Are they worth going to?

I have no idea if they do any kinda of transmission work but you might want to see if OK 4WD can do it or knows a good shop.

Thanks Tani1500. The lease on my M3 is up in Feb, and I'm thinking of making the Ram my daily driver, so I should probably do up the tranny right.

Anyone have any experience with Aamco? I know they don't do aftermarket stuff, but I don't know any tranny people in my area.

I am in northern Jersey... near NYC...

I know a couple guys that work in dealers around here I would trust with my tranny (I used to work for a Jeep dealer)... in fact if mine ever goes bad I will pull it myself and hand it to one of them to rebuild....

I don't know of anyone down in your area... sorry guys...

Yea, I'm from north jersey as well. I just had my tranny done about 10k ago. Its been back a few times, but theres another place bout 15 mins away from my which ive heard good things about. I think they may be a little on the higher side with cost, but after having issues with my trans, i wish i had taken it to them. The name of the place is Level 10 transmission. Its up on Rt 94, i think in vernon, nj.
