Default looking for answers...

ok, if i do want to swap out the rear end with bigger gears, do i still need the gears for the front end? Can you only change out the gears in the rear and still be able to drive in 4x4, or do the ratios up front and in the rear have to match each other? tell me everything about changing gears and rear-ends

please help me!

You will need to set up the front with the same gear ratio as the rear....if not you will break a lot of things....xfer case ruin an axle etc.

yes they have to be the same. if you want you could do gears in the back first but go under the truck and disconnect the transfercase if not let me come over and video tape it explode

You could just remove the front drive shaft. You would still retain use of the transfer case low/neutral if you needed it. After you change the fronts, then simply put the drive shaft back in when you're done.

Good luck.
