the timing light thing doesnt work on the mag motor...it jumps around, you need the scan tool.

as for the cooler, you need to be aware that if you do this mod, it is a potential hazard if you rearend someone, you'll have gas leaking int the front of the truck if you break it. I used 5/16" fuel injection line and a flex-a-lite fuel/oil cooler, disconnedted the fuel lines from the frame connection and at the fuel rail and used the FI line in it's place. I ran it all the way up to the front of the truck and mounted it infront of the radiator. what it will do is squirt cool/cold fuel in the airstream which will cool the intake charge some, making it slightly denser, that plus the slightly (very slightly) denser fuel will yield more low/mid range power. that will give you a boost in mileage as well if you can keep your foot out of it.

Hmm, I remember hear that it will increase the low end a bit more, obviously nothing crazy though. I'll have to do this Monday, I'd love to have some more power.

Well, I went on a 320 mile round trip today up to Kemmer, Wyoming to dig some fish fossils. Bottom end of power band is MUCH better, a lot lighter throttle response, upper end feels the same although I never did get on it. From Kemmer coming back tho I was fighting a da** good head wind for better than 3/4 of the way.Filled up when I pulled into town and my mpg was 12.4. Maybe without the headwind I could have squeezed 13 out of her Anyways, thats about .8 mpg better than what I've been getting for the last while.

cool, it would have been nice to see the improvement w/o the cps change. like I said, I got a 6% bump in mileage...

So how does this relate to a hypertech or other programer, as far timing wise. If the timing is already advanced through the computer, what would the CPS mod do?

anythoughts?

I though of this after I saw this thread, it also applies to my '05 and I may do the same on it... slot your cps anyway and adjust it until it pings on the worst conditions, then back it off a tad to stop the pinging. that should get you the most advance w/the hypertech or whatever programmer you use.

That same line of thought is what actually influenced me to try the cps mod.The hypertech programmer is not available for my year of truck, but the piggyback hypertech tuning module is and that is what I am running on it. I do not know what the timing change actually is from the module and have not been able to get any specs on it. I can already control the upper rpm end [actually retard due to boost]of the timing from in the cab with the crane fireball ignition ,but not the lower end. Anyway, on my truck, advancing the cps 5/16 inch resulted in mis-firing ,but 1/8 inch improved lower and mid range significantely[I slotted the cps in 1/16 inch increments, and tried each incrementally, yea, pia but worked for me,wanted to find the "sweet spot" if it was there]. For my application, top end results were immaterial as I have to retard timing under boost anyway with a second map sensor and timing control. I am also sure some trucks may react a bit different with this mod, but this mod and fuel cooling mod did help my mpg and lower/mid power. The mpg test was so far just a one time run but looks promising.Any mpg gain these days is a good thing, especially with 35x13.50 mudders and 7 inches of liftThanks to steve00ram360 for the initial fuel mod idea.Just took me awhile to get at it
