Truck is running and driving!
Some of you may have seen my post previously as I picked up a 97 Ram Sport w/a 360 in non running condition for dirt cheap. The truck is from the Carolinas and hasnt started rusting after 104k miles.
I found the ad for this truck as a non running good condition truck for $3500. Since I sold my last 97 in 99 to return to school I wanted another one. I went to look at it and to say the least, my expection of good condition and his were not the same!
The interior is absolutely gross! Stained with everything and anything you can think of. All these stupid led lights in the interior. Seats are dirty as can be. Just nasty!
The exterior has paint peeling on the roof, a dent on the right side bed and the rear bumper is smashed all to heck. Sure enough it doesnt run! Then he tells me that it smokes everytime you start it cause the rings need to "seat." I just laughed and used that to my advantage.
That night I crunched some numbers and offered him $1000 for the truck as it sits. We agreed on $1500. Not bad.
To get it running I ordered a new fuel pump from Mopar ($250) and installed it. Started the truck right up and holy crap did it smoke! Definately has some issues. From there I road tested it and the tranny slips, barely goes into reverse, floats all over the road and it has NO power at all! I couldnt even do a brake stand!
Now I made myself a shopping list:
Tranny fluid + filter (fluid was burnt and low, shifts perfect after the service)
Intake gasket set (plenum gasket was blown right out)
Shocks (completely wasted, replaced with a set of Monroe Sensatracs)
Axle Joints (completely wasted)
Ball Joints (didnt really need to be changed)
Cap/Rotor/Plugs/Wires (complete wasted, appeared to be factory cap and rotor)
Headers
Magnaflow y-pipe and converter (stock converter is completely clogged)
Flowmaster cat back w/4" stainless tips
Got all that done this week and its running pretty damn good. It gets up a goes without any issues at all. It even burns the rear tire!
Next up is the interior. I just ordered the headliner kit and carpet. Not sure what I am going to do with the seats as of yet. Removed all the stupid LED lights while I was in there!
Another piece of good information for any of you looking to replace your rear bumper. Mopar sells a rear bumper kit which includes the rear bumper in primer, all the brackets to mount it and the bumper pads for ~$280. Not a bad deal in my eyes. I saw them selling as new aftermarkets for over $300.
I will get pics up next week. Now I have to start on the interior and then move to the body to get it all dialed in.
Thanks to everyone here helping me out with some of the questions I have had so far.
