Think I found the problem
Steering gear
I adjust the steering gear a few weeks ago and it helped a little with the slop. Just a little though. After a while of driving I thought maybe I didn't tighten the adjust screw enough so I went back in there and did it again. After that I noticed the steering clunk was gone but the truck wouldn't center itself after a turn and it was a little HAIRY driving on the highway. It was a 2 hand job. OK, I tightened it TOO much. SO I backed it off some and the slop and clunk is back. Tried it over and over again but I can't come up with a happy medium with it.
It's time for a new steering gear. I think. If you guys agree then does anybody know where I can get a good quality replacement? Besides the 500 or 600 the dealer wants. I'd be willing to pay 200 to 300 for a good one. Not a P.O.S. I just want to get my steering back and not worry about it for a long time to come.
Thanks

PSC makes good ones. http://www.pscmotorsports.com/ Heavy Duty ones and cheaper then the dealer
DO NOT buy a Lares steering box, I got mine at advance auto parts, th ebox was leaking the minute I installed it.
It has a lifetime warrenty, but I have to take th etime to pull it and run back to do a swap.

sorry to hear about the problem.
I had these in the bookmarks:

these guys seem to be very knowledgeable about Dodge steering and might have an opinion on what replacement box would be the best:

Thanks guys, I'll check them out and order something next week. I'll probably throw a new pitman on while I'm at it.
Are all these new units ready to just drop in? No adjustments or anything?

Dont get anything other than the PSC heavy duty box. It is worth the money. It is a direct bolt on box.
As far as the pitman arm. It shouldnt need to be replaced at all. They dont wear out. Unless the nut backed off and the arm was wobbling on the splines.
it would be a complete waste of money other wise.

Hey God Ram It, thanks. Either the arm moves on the spline or the whole spline wobbles. It's hard for me tell without a friend on the steering wheel. I just went down there and twisted the shaft and watched everything. Something doesn't look right where the 2 parts meet.
I agree, a pitman shouldn't go bad. Aside from a certain kind of suspension lift it shouldn't need replacement. If it is the arm that's wobbling on the spline though, could the meeting surfaces be damaged? Both arm and steering gear?
And the psc heavy duty box is the one I'm going with, thanks.
