Default Factory Anti-Spin Diff and Fluid Change

Hi. this is kind of a multi-part question

I changed my differential fluid for the first time yesterday. I put in 80w-90 Valvoline gear oil. Today when I was doing a few things under the hood i decided I would clean off the sticker which lists the factory options. One of them said that I have the anti-spin differential. As things usually go I did not know this so I didnt buy or add any friction modifier. The bottle of Gear Oil says its okay for limited slip applications but I was wondering If i need to pop off the cover again and re drain the fluid and add some of the LSD stuff.

What exactly is the purpose and reason for using the anti-friction additives in LSD? I drove about 70 miles today and didnt seem to notice any problems. The truck also seemed to run better then it used to.

Thanks for the help

What kind of gear oil did you put in?

You can just get the additive and pour it in through the filler hole. You don't need to re-drain it.

if you dont mind sehr, ive got a question for you. What did you use to seal the plate back on. did you just use something like permseal or did you use it with a gasket. i asked before and someone told me it would be fine to just use the sealant. but i looked in the haynes manual and it says to use the sealant in conjunction with a gasket. just wondering what you did. thanks

I used Red gasket maker.

I just used the regular Valvoline 80w-90 that comes in the white bottle.

If I just add the modifier couldn't it overfill and just pour right back out?

if your worried about it coming out when you add the MOPAR additive from the DEALERSHIP (best stuff to use!!! 1 8oz bottle will do! ) you can do 2 tthings. one is jack up the rear end to get the fluid to flow foward giving you enough room to add the additive.. or take a old turkey baster and suck out a little of the gear fluid and that will give you enough room to add the additive.

like i siad above the LSD friction modifier from the dealer is the best stuff to use on a stock LSD... ive heard a few bad things from the traxis crap you get from autozone

Thanks shott. Do you recall how much the stuff is from the dealer?

Any idea if its bad that I drove it today. I had no idea I had the anti-spin till tonight. I didnt notice any problems when driving it.

Thanks

I would suggest getting the friction modifier. Also - you won't find a gasket for the gears. I tried before I figured out there wasn't one. You HAVE to use red gasket maker, thats how the factory does it.....

I got the additive from the dealer.

The fluid level dropped in the rear so i was able to add some of the friction additive. I probably could have added more but for now i just put in about half of that little bottle. I wanted to be safe and check the level when the fluid is hot. If it is still a little low I will add more of the additive. Thanks for the help!
