Default What you bring with you off-roading

Normally this would go in the "Off-Road" section, but nobody goes there regularly, and i know a good number of us do travel beyond the pavement. Just thought it would be fun (and helpful) to share what we bring with us on the trail incase of troubles. I know I probably overdo it, but thats because I would rather be safe than sorry.

Heres my list (i know, its long):
2 quarts engine oil
1 quart gear oil
oil filter
2 quarts ATF
tool kit (the usual stuff you may need)
lug nut wrench
2'x2' plywood sheet to rest jack on
Jack
spare tire removed before trip and set in bed(they can be impossible to get our from bottom of truck in some spots
tow strap
jumper cables
Fix a flat (sometimes better option than switching to spare, and its a permanant fix many times)
cell phone
first aid kit (im an EMT, so its always in the truck)
camera...you never know
a friend (with truck)
2-way radios
extra socks (incase they get wet fixing something, i hate wet socks so there is always a pair in my truck)
food (not worried about getting stuck out there, i just eat a lot)

I havent used many of these, but most i have. I havent personally used any oil or filters ever, but i have had to give them to others. the oil can be shared, but of course not all filters can. anyways, i have lots of stories about how helpful some of this has been to me and others. Any questions just ask.

What do you bring? anything?

Cordless drill -- nice to be able to remove fasteners and things of that nature quickly
cordless sawzall -- dead tree limbs cut to size provide excellent unstuck traction
5 gallons of extra fuel -- never know how long your gonne be stuck and if you have to drive as far as I do in Montana......
Basic cold weater safety kit -- as we enjoy wheeling in the mountains in the winter -- I can describe theit contents if requested
All the same stuff Ramcharger does as well, although I don't remember ever bringing an extra oil filter, not a bad idea though
Camping gear -- never know when you might just wanna set up camp for th enight
Sirius satellite radio -- Can't get FM in the mountains very well, and I get tired of my own CD's after a while
GPS device -- it"s mostly a toy, but could come in handy!!!!
High lift jack -- neccesity, even though I am not lifted

You name it, we go it. All the stuff listed above. All our rigs have Hi Lifts. I also bring an extra old u-joint, An old one is better then a broken one. On my buddy's SOA Scout we also have OBAir and OBWelder. ****** Blocks, lots of shackles and 4" straps, small chain saw or axe, tree savers (we just use the 4" straps[:'(]) We all also have fluids with us, not enough if we only had one person with them, but since we all have them if something happens we can pool them to have enough to refill. We have everything. One time my friends got stuck in a huge puddle in a Ram Charger and it was Fall so it was about 30 degrees at midnight when they got stuck. They had a lighter and made a fire in the middle of the trail until we got there to pull them out

I'm really paranoid about straps/winch cables/recov. points breaking so we're cautious, only use the huge like 50,000lb shackles, and 4-6" straps. I've seen first hand what happens when a chincy 2" strap breaks. Totally shattered back window, class all over the car, and class shards all over the kid that was in the back...Bad evening

Saved me once so far. Was going down this super steep twisty narrow hill. My truck barely mad it between some of the trees. Got the almost the bottom and there was a tree across the road. No way I was gonna back up that long nasty hill, and no way I could turn around. Chop Chop Chop and I was on my way.

In sand, you should go down to about 12psi
