O2 sensor replaced, still getting CEL
Ok, I replaced the O2 sensor on my truck and I'm still getting a CEL.
Specifics:
97 1500 5.9 L
Code was P0138
Replaced sensor AFTER converter.
After searching around trying to figure out what Bank 1 Sensor 2 was, there seemed to be evidence that there are 4 O2 sensors - I only found 2. Did I replace the wrong one? Do I need to have the CEL code cleared with a scanner to make it go away?
PS - I used the OE part from Autozone. I know, MOPAR would have been better. But hey, I went back to school and money's tight!
Thanks in advance.

I have the same truck/motor. There really are only two sensors. There is a pre-cat actaully in the cat and a post cat further down the exhaust stream. If resetting your PCM doesn't work you may want to check out the other one as well. Also I just changed mine, I was smoking liek a diesel it failed so miserably, but I purchased a Bosch and the truck seems to like it.
That did the trick. I was unsure if you had to reset the computer or if it would go off automatically.
Also, thanks for the info on the number of sensors. I guess the bigger engines maybe have more.

nope, engine size shouldnt have to do with that cause one measures the mix of fuel to air in exhaust i believe and the other checks the functionality of the cat.
the newer trucks have 3 cats... one off each exhaust manifold and 1 behind both. I had this setup and it had 4 o2 sensors. At 1st I thought it sucked but having an o2 on each bank would keep the performance level up i'd think.

There could also be up to 4 sensors on a truck depending on the emissions package
For what it's worth, "bank 1" is referring to the location of cyl. 1, which is the drivers front cyl. when looking from the front of the truck
"bank 2" would then be the pass side
"sensor 2" would indicate the sensor furthest from the engine, or downstream "sensor 1" would be upstream
