Just installed K&N FIPK Gen2
"What i did was put the hose mender that fit into both rubber pieces into each one half way and put a clamp on each one, along with a clamp where it connects to the intake tube. I didn't cut any of it I just moved it backwards"
I know this thread is a bit dated, but that's exactly what I did yesterday. Has there been any problems? The PCV hose is designed to vent exhaust gas back into the throttle body for a second try at combustion (from what I have read). My concern is the lack of vacuum from the 6-8 extra inches of hose.
I think I'm going to go shorten it anyway when I swap my spark plug cables, since they're both in the same hard to reach spot.

no problems, just since I've installed it I've felt no difference normal driving and never floored it before I put it in so can't tell the difference between the two. Yeah its very awkward working back there, no room for anything, maybe in the future I'll cut the hose down, lemme know if you do it if you see a difference.
The computer takes 200 miles to "learn". So I would say you have a while to go before you will know for sure, unless you drive alot. Reseting the PCM will speed things up a little bit. I'm with the others here though, you should be able to notice some improvement as soon as it is installed. If you keep your foot out of it have you noticed any gas mileage increase?

Yeah I know this thread is old, I installed it sometime in August put plenty miles on it. I really can't feel any difference at all. Could it be the setup of my 285's with the 3.55 gears. Its sluggish to begin with and maybe the FIPK is being held back because of it.

CAI's are not really a noticable mod on speed density engines. If we had MAF on our trucks, they would be a much better mod by themselves. To really take full advantage of a CAI, you need to tell the PCM that it is getting more air (i.e programmer or a custom flash would help), and it also helps to get a better TB, and do other intake mods that would take advantage of the extra air your getting from the CAI. The stock airhat, though restrictive, is about all that is needed for the engine if all else is stock. Any additional air will help, but not make a very noticable difference.
You sohuld've noticed it as soon as you pulled out of the driveway. You don't need to reset the pcm. You are just freeing up the intake tract. If you don't notice a difference you need to call k&n or take it to a shop.
Now that I think about it you said you never go over 2500 rpm's. You probably won't "feel" much of a difference because it won't help much unless it's really sucking hard like in higher rpm's. You should see a little more low end torque and better gas mileage.
do people actually spend a lot of time in the range K&N shows best HP gains? I can't imagine doing that like even pulling a trailer, I could see going up a giant hill with a trailer maybe.
