Default Corporate axle question?

Since we have had some discussion recently on the chrysler 9.25, I have my own question. We have discussed at great detail recently LSD and Posi. My question is that I am not entirely certain which I have. I knowthat when I oose the gas I spin both back tires, and they are 285/75 16 Pro Comp xTerrain's. I can clearly leave two distinct black marks. Also when wheeling and get a loss of forward momentum (what some people call "stuck"), I spin both back tires and the front axle will switch back and forth. The front I am certain has LSD because of the scenario I just stated. I beleive, therefore, that someone before me put in either a posi or some kind of locking device in the rear because I certainly don't think Chrysler would have done that from the factory, especially on the bone stock no frills model that I have. Any thoughts? I suppose i could pull up the build sheet from the current running thread and check out the build...... What do the experts, both ASE and backyard think? On that note I am also an avid backyard enthusiast and love this forum!!

POSI and LSD are the same thing.

Limited slip differentials.
"Positive traction differential" is a differential the GM made and put in there vehicles years ago and it became a generic term.

Limited slip differentials are the group of differentials that the bleong to.

And Dodge did put LSD in there truck right from the factory. They called them trac-loks(commonly referred to as trash-loks).

Your front is what you would call an Open differential which is what all dodge front ends have (except the Power wagons). It is the standard diff that will put power to the wheel that has the least amount drag.

So it is quite possible that your truck came with a trac-lok and it is most definate that no body put a LSD in the front.
Now whether or not someone swapped the diff in the rear I have no Idea but it does have a LSD of some sorts

Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate it. Why is it referred to as trash-loc? Is it not dependable? Should I be treating it better? I like throwing two rooster tails of mud/rocks/dirt/pavement, when others are only throwing one!!!

some people have never had a problem with them, but others have had less than good experience with them. Usually its when the truck has larger than stock tires.

Okay, then it is a good thing the parts store told me I needed the friction additive when I filled the diff with Amsoil. I thought he was on crack, but that was before I found the glory that is this forum.

to add to god's statement.... the traclocks dont like to be ripped on with oversized tires and trail ridden constantly.. a trash-loc will be usually found on a 80%trail 20%pavement rig running 35's or biggers ESPECIALLY with the incorrect gearing.. some dingdong running 44's with 3.55's...

Well, not sure about my gearing but I am running 285/75/16 Pro Comp XTerrain's and i generally see 80% pavement 20% trail, unfortunately. I wish the ratio were heavier on trail but we have few options in Mt and it takes a drive to get to them. so every other weekend or so if i am lucky. Actaully it has been so dry this year I have unfortunately not even had to opportunity or need for 4WD either. All east trail stuff. I should assume then, under my circumstances I shouldn't see too much of an issue?

I definitely don't ever intend to do it, sometimes my foot can get away from me though. I am sure other owners of the magnum 360 can agree.

My trash-loc is in the shop right now. All new bearings. They did the work last week on Thursday/Friday. Got it back. Later Friday night the rearend got noiser and sounded like it was low on oil. Check oil level and it was fine. Additive had been added by the shop. So I took it back today. They had it all day. THey said that they put the old shim in it and feel that was causing the noise. So they put the new shim in and I will get it back tomorrow. I've got 110,000 plus miles on it.
