Well, I don't know ... I just tried it again ... I even tried it on the mechanical side. Works there, too. Even has a picture on that side.
I'm sorry Bill, I'm an idiot. I didn't realize last night that every time I was clicking on the wheel that another (sub) catagory was opening below it. I really do hafta lay off the booze while cruising the forums.

Anyway ...

Thanks for the link !! It worked fine for me. Now I don't know what to do. I WOULD like to just go with the new wheel and call it a day, but I'm also kinda interrested in Silver's sew on wheel cover ( Thanks Silver !! ) Of course I hit a wall with each choice.

1st, I don't think I have the know how or the tools nessary to replace the existing wheel without screwing even MORE up

but

2nd, I'm no Betsy Ross.

How difficult was it to sew on Silver? Were the holes pre-punched in the cover, or did you make em as you went along?

The holes are there already. It is pretty simple once you start it correctly. I messed up a few times because I didn't get it started off right. It has to start correctly or you end up wrong when you get back around to the other side to tie it off.

Hmmmm ..... I might just give this a shot. Thanks !!!

Also, I was poking around on their site, and in your original thread you mentioned that you wanted gray thread. On their site it does mention that gray thread is available. Just lettin ya know.

How does the the wheel feel? In their gallery a couple of the wheels look like they have some wrinkles in them. Was that the case for you, or was it just a bad install on their part?

yup, i did end up getting some grey thread from them (they sent it to me free of charge), just haven't had time to cut it in to the gray parts yet. No wrinkles at all on mine, it is very tight and snug. Feels like leather. Made the steering wheel feel a little thicker overall, but I got used to that pretty quick.

Yeah, I think this is the route that I'm going to go with. Should I contact the hubcap place that you dealt with, or go straight to the source? If the hubcap place, do you still have the address?

hmmmm .... I'm kinda thinking about going with the perferated one. What do you think?

BTW: Silver your truck is SWEET !!!!

I checked out your pics and you did a REALLY nice job on it. I really like the way you decided to go with black running boards instead of painting them!! Looks great !! Where did you get your tow hooks? Did you have to cut the black bezel thing on the front of your truck to mount them, or did you just get a new bezel?

I only dealt with that place through eBay, so I don't have any of their info really. I just looked on eBay a few minutes ago though, and couldn't find them. There was, however, lots of places that are selling the Wheelskins covers for around what I paid. Any of them should work fine for you to buy from, just search for "wheelskins". I thought about the perferated one, but it reminded me too much of the nagahide steering wheel covers my parents had on their vehicles back in the late 70's early 80's. My other vehicles came from the factory with leather steering wheels, and they looked really good to me with no perferations, so that's why I went with the same for the pickup.

Thanks for the comments on my truck. I've worked hard on it to make it the way I like, plus keeping the wife happy with it too since she rides in it and drives it occasionaly too. It's just a lot of fun to do stuff to it. Still lots of stuff I want to do to it though, just need time and $$$. I'm in the Truck of the Month competition this month, so if you like my truck, go vote for me.
I got the tow hooks from the dealer, which is probably the most expensive way to go. GOD RAM IT is on this forum, and he makes and sells a custom bracket that will allow you to attach just about any kind of tow hook you want. If I had known at the time, I probably would have gone that route. Yes, I cut my original black bezel thing to accomodate the tow hooks. The pattern for the hole was actually already outlined on it from the factory, just not cut. I used a jig saw with a plastic cutting blade, a dremel tool with a sanding insert, and a hand file to cut the hole and smooth it all out.

When you get your wheel cover, posts some pics for us all to see.

Hey, thanks, I appreciate it. Let us know how the wheel skin works out if you get one. So far, I am pretty happy with mine, just wish I had gone all black instead.

Yeah, I just emailed my brother and asked him to order it for me. Here's the link that I gave him... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wheel...19884824QQrdZ1 He's the Ebay man in the family. I don't have an account. I was really torn about going with the perferated one, but I took your advice and decided to just stick with the stock look. Looks like it's going to come to about 32.00 with freight. I'll let you know and post pics when I get it. Perhaps I'll recruit a lovely Supermodel to do the installation for me in order to make the pics more interresting.

I installed and have now lived with the new wheel cover for about a month or so now. I was a bit nervous at first because the wheel DID feel different at first, but just as you said, you get used to it. A month has passed now and I couldn't be happier with it. It looks great, feels great, is easy to install, and even smells great ( fresh real leather ) Here are some pics that I took along the way. Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks again Silver for your help !!
