Default Leather steering wheel

My leather ( pleather ? ) steering wheel is starting to show some wear at the top and is a little rough. I've picked up a wheel wrap from Pep Boys, but it just doesn't feel the same. It feels like I'm tring to hold onto a tennis ball now while driving.

My question is ... is there a way to bring my wheel back to life without having to wrap it, or can you recomend a wrap that feels good?

Thanks ...

I have got a faux leather replacement with the wire ribs in it. I ave no idea where it came from because it came with the truck, but the ribs are great for control and driving pleasure..... last part was an obvious joke, but... I don't think it is too fat for me. Keep looking around and I am sure you will find one. Also refurbishing or restoring a faux leather steering wheel can get costly and depending on how bad it is may not even be able to be done.

My '06 has the standard 'pleather' steering wheel. And at only 3k it has a wear spot in it.
It will get replaced under warranty.

As far as covers, look around wall mart.
I once had one that was smooth in some spots, bumpy in others - I liked that.
I also had one that was really soft - some sort of foam... didn't like that.

I've gotten a cover for it, but the wheel just feels too fat now. Also the gap in the middle is driving me a bit loopy. At this point I think I'd be happier with one of those wheel wraps that we used back in the day. You know .. it was a wrap that you put on the wheel and it came with a plastic string that you also wrapped around the wheel and tied in a knot at the end. Anybody know where i can find one of those?

Feel like dropping $162.50 and just replacing it with a new one? The on-line Dodge wholesalers have them. Christmas is coming up ... buy your truck (and yourself) a nice present and really take care of it this time.

I think that's really the only way to go. Covers are so cheesy. I have a leather wheel and it's been ef'ed up for years (right at the top/center ... the rest of it's fine). Dried out ... cracked. They're pretty fat to begin with so covers don't really fit.

Just an opinion. [8D]

I'm Ok with that, but I'm REALLY surprised that they are that inexpensive. Not that that's cheap, but I thought they would be a heck of a lot more. Don't they have airbags in them? I can't imagine the labor costs.

How did you come up with that number? Have you priced em out ??

Go to www.wholesalemopar.com and drill down on the body parts side. They're only, like, $5 or $10 more than non-leather wheels. I'm not sure if they come with the airbags in them or not ... these wholesale suppliers surprize you sometimes. I just bought an instrument cluster bezel from this same place. They sell the power recepticle and clips for it seperatly so I figured I would have to salvage these items from my old one. Nope ... the bezel came complete ... and cheaper than I saw it go for on eBay (used), too. [8D]

I think www.makeitmopar.com will have all the same stuff at the same price but they're a sponser here.

I don'T know if I'm an idiot and I'm doing it wrong, if the site is down, or what but I couldn't get it to show me the steering wheel at all. It had the button to click, but after I clicked it nothing really happened. I just kept going around and around.

Well, I don't know ... I just tried it again ... I even tried it on the mechanical side. Works there, too. Even has a picture on that side.

Check out www.wheelskins.com. I got one from them. It is real leather, and fits very nicely and is holding up very well. You have to actually sew it on, took about 45 minutes. They sell for almost $50 on the wheelskins website, but I got mine for just under $25 including shipping from an eBay supplier (Hubcaps Plus). I went with a 2 tone cover that matches my custom seat covers, but I kinda wish I had just gone with straight black. Here is the post I did on it if you interested:
