pads and rotors???

RE: pads and rotors???
And if you live in a cold, salty winter part of the world, slotted rotors are notorious for literally "pie chunking". They rust up in all them extra holes. and seem to have a shorter life span than slotted rotors.Exposing more metal to the elements brings corrosion on that much faster. Big, pie shaped pieces break off. You can get them coated but I have never seen anything hold up to a few winters so far. Not where I live anyway.

RE: pads and rotors???
Thanks guys.
VW, Yes I believe when we all get our trucks inspected (rotors) are part of the inpection. And I have not met a mechanic that will let a scored rotor pass inspection. This is how they make a living. Whether or not it makes a difference in my braking performance doesn't matter. I need the sticker on my truck and I want it to brake right and be safe.
Steve00ram360, thats what I was thinking. From summit, powerstop pads and some sort of slotted or drilled rotors. Somthing better than stock.
As far as my half ton truck goes, I might as well be driving a 2500 or MORE! I've got alot of heavy tools in there year round. I really do need a 2500 to do my job right. But all I can do right now is keep fixing this one. Besides, I love my truck.
Deisel D I admit it, I haven't done a thing to my calipers yet. But what you siad makes sense. I guess I should take them off and give them a good cleaning and some TLC.
Thanks guys

RE: pads and rotors???
ive tried many like 6 types of brake pads and found GM pads from a 95-ish chevy truck(this is going on a 95 ram) to be the best pad so far. as with rotors i havent messed with anything aftermarket yet all i did was 3/4 ton rear wheel cylinders and a HD 2500 ram master cylinder and i have no complaints

Ineed to do the wholething soon, pads, rotors, stainless steel brake lines, rebuild of the calipers, new bearing if needed as they have 139k and 9 years on them I betting they are.
96 Ram Ext. cab 2wd, 5.9 gas, 4w ABS.

RE: pads and rotors???
I changed the balljoints in my dad's 98 dakota (riveted balljoints suck.) and he had two bushings that barely, and i mean barely, held that bolt in. Napa has them for cheap, about 2.50 a pair. takes some pushing to get them in (wd-40 goes a long way here) but it's great piece of mind. I'll be tending to my brakes when I swap out my TRE in two weeks. What I'm in debate for is about getting new rotors. My centerpiece cap has popped off and somehow won't go back on securely, therefore the hub section has began to build up a slight amount of rust. Not good if that thing rusts through. Bearings pop out and your done, lol. I don't want to spend the money on them though, so I may just get a new set of lugnuts for the front and screw the cap on underneath the new nuts.

Go buy Duralast Gold pads from Autozone...they may not be the "best," but you'll never have to buy pads again. They come with a lifetime warranty. Just take the worn ones in and they'll give you a new set every time.
Sorry, but that sounds like a losing porpositon to me. I had a friend of mine that kept replacing "lifetime" starters from autozonein his 79 Trans Am. Trouble is HE had to replace them, after the 4th or 5th one he bought a high dollar replacement, no trouble since then.
