Truck Dies Out and won't start for Hours??
Hello all I am new to DF and I am having a Major Problem with my 2nd Gen Ram I have a 98 Ram with the 318 and it will start and run for about an hour or so and then it dies while driving and it won't start for at least 3-4 hours after it dies then it will run about 45 minutes and do the same thing again, I have replaced the pick-up coil, ignition coil, wires and plugs and ASD relay as well... I thought it might be a heat problem but I am not sure it hasn't thrown and engine light or codes.....I am getting fuel and pressure to the rail and my fuel pump is working like it should or at least I can hear it pick up the 2-3 seconds that it should....has anyone had this problem or does anyone know what it could be I am at a loss with it and I need HELP!!!! any ideas would help.. Thanks Eric[:@]

ok.. this is going to sound so off the wall, but hear me out. a few months back before my hubby deployed we were off roading up in jersey in the pines. and all of a sudden we hear a noise.. something was stuck inbetween the exhaust pipes.. clear it out. go to start it back up.. NOTHING!.
so we head back to our house, and go pick up our other truck a long with a flat bed trailer to tow the other truck.
when we get back there, for ****s and giggles we see if the truc starts.. and what do you know??? the thing starts up. we ran her for about 45 mins to an hour. and the thing goes dead. so after two days of doing this, and trouble shooting the problem.. we finally start listening to sounds. and all that other stuff. and something didnt douns right under the headers.
it was the starter. the starter was getting so hot while it was running.. then it would just die. it was collecting so much heat off of our headers that we had just put on.. so we kind of rigged up a heat sheild and got a new starter, and havent had a problem since.
so check your starter. i know that sounds totally off topic, and off the wall. but that was our story. so i thought that i would share that with you.
take care.
