Default Low Beams Dont Work Help!

I have a 2000 1500 4x4 and the low beams dont work. I put in new bulbs and still nothin. The high beams work and the fog lights do too but just no low beams. The connectors are in perfect shape with no corrosion and all the fuses are good. I was thinking maybe the dimmer switch is bad but dont wanna just start throwin parts at it to find the problem. Is there a common problem with the low beams in this model? Any ideas or help is appreciated.

hmm never heard of that problem before... i'd start with the fuses and see if any are busted.

otherwise probably going to have to start with the dimmer switch.. though i don't remember if the dimmer has any effect on the headlights just those in the cab.

If you have tilt steering, remove the cowl around the steering wheel. Then amke sure thet wire harness is securely plugged into the blinker/high beam switch assembly. I have heard of problems with harnesses coming loose from tilt steering. If that's not the problem then all that's left is headlight on/off switch, high/low beam switch, or a broken low beam feed wire. Check to see also if you have a bad headlight relay.

Good luck.

I do have a tilt wheel so I will check that next. I checked all the fuses and they appear to be fine. I checked all the ground wires and they seem fine too. Is the headlight relay in the fuse box or is it located elsewhere, cuz I didnt see a listing for it on the fuse box cover? Thanks for the help.

the relays are all tucked into something called the PDC... power distrbution box... its the big black box sitting right next to the battery... has all the relays and circuits for the bigger systems on the truck..like the headlights... also the headlight switches have been known to overheat and burn out... theres alot of amperege being drawn off that one switch..and for being a 2000, they used the same newer style switch from 99 to 01... i had a problem with my switch... mines an 01... theres like (IIRC) 6 circuits running through that switch... and 2 or 3 of them are of the higher end of the amperege draw . like the fogs and headlights... parkinglights draw a bit too..

anyway...check it and see if its the culprit

I think I found the culprit in the missing low beam case! It has to be a loose wire or something in the steering column. When i tilt the wheel all the way up the low beams come on then when I tilt it back down they shut off! I happened to drop something on the floor and I tilted the column up to be able to reach it and, wouldnt ya know, they came on! I laughed to myself thinking that all the way to work this morning people were flipping me off and beeping at me cuz I had the high beams on. Oh well atleast I figured it out. Thanks for the helpful leads.

I took the covers off the column today and seen that the purple wire with the white stripe was hanging out of the connector. When I tilt the wheel up it pushes the wire back in. Seems like the wire is too short and it broke the little holder inside the connector that holds the wire end in. So I squeezed the wire end so that it would fit the connector on the switch tightly and just pulled on the wire a lil bit to give it more length and pushed it back in. My best bet would be to get a new connector and swap it out but that was my quick fix until I can order a new one.
