Default No Heat

I have no heat in my 96 RAM. It has great AC but no heat. I was told to check my thermostat and I replaced it with no change. Could my heater coil be clogged or maybe its just a switch malfunction?

I have a 2000 1500 and I have heat but my truck takes a long time to get warm. Is this normal for Dodge trucks? I also have a 94 Dakota that never really gets warm enough for the heater to work well either.

Long time to get heat is usually a thermostat that is stuck open. And always make sure the coolant is in good condition and at the proper level.

Good luck.

I put a new thermostat in the dakota, new coolant and flushed out the heater core. The temp gauge barely even registers heat even in the summer. Its a mystery to me but my 1500 Ram atleast gets a little over 130 degrees. Guess wich one I am gonna drive in the winter? lol

I'd say you were sold a bum thermostat. It happens. I am not super familiar with the Dakotas but make sure the thermostat does not need to be mounted a certain way. If your stat mounts sideways, you usually have to have the little breather at the top. If not, it is possible to keep an air bubble trapped in their for a long, long time. There's not too many choices of what could be wrong. Double check the operating temp for the stat as well.

Good luck.
