Synthetic Oil High Mileage??
i did when i had 80K on her.. some say when you are in the higher miles you should switch to a blend first to acustom the seals to the new oil... run 3 -4 K in blend then switch to straight syn
They're talkin about a synthetic bend oil like Castrol Syntec Blend ($3 something a quart I believe). It's part synthetic, part dino oil. And your better synthetic oil is gonna be about 6 bucks a quart (Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1, etc...) and the REALLY high end stuff is usually 8 bucks or more (Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline Synthetic). Be sure to follow these guys advice though, cause I swapped mine straight over to full synthetic and I developed a front seal leak IMMEDIATELY.
so blend a normal oil cycle and that makes the seals do what that they wouldnt if i just switched over? I am not understanding, but otherwise sounds like a good idea.
I switched mine over to full synthetic at 175,000km. cause thats when I bought it. it has 200,000kms on it now and still no problems. I use synthetic in all my vehicles. I usually use castrol sythetic 10w30. and my truck used to burn a lil bit of oil and now it doesnt burn any at all.

You said that you were using Penzoil now? The other day me and my Auto teacher at the college were talking about Penzoil and he made the comment that it contained some sort of wax. He was saying that if you switch to another oil after using Penzoil that the wax tends to cause alot of sludge build up in your motor. I had never heard this before and its possible that he is wrong. I know that if you are using Penzoil and go to synthetic, that the oil is going to be very dirty because the synthetic will break up alot of crap that is in your motor. I know it was that way with mine when I switched but the previous owner was using Quaker State. I use Castrol Syntec 5-30 now. I switched over at 75,000 miles and I have put about 14,000 more on it since then with no problems. Anyways not sure about the Penzoil thing maybe someone else has heard of it.
I've got a Fram filter now, but if i do the syn switcharoo i might use one more fram possibly a little better one the if i could find some amsoil or something good ya know? w/ a realy good filter, what are intervals after the blend when its full syn, how often do you change oil?
EDIT: We did put a treatment of Slick50 in the last oil change, that stuff is expensive figured it would help the seals and keep the oil together a lil longer
