I did that once being a jackass, then I tried shifting to drive and it stayed in second. I was scared s***less. It turned out the next day the check engine light popped up and I needed a speed sensor, but I was so sure I killed the tranny. STOP DOING IT. lol

it could very well be your speed sensor.

How high are you revving it??? Could you be bouncing off your rev limiter???

There is nothing wrong with putting the truck into Neutral while it's rolling. Slamming it into drive while holding a high rev gives the same effect as a stall converter and can possibly damage your transmission if you do it too much. It is more likely that you are are simply reaching the rev-limiter before the transmission can grab. To test this, try holding a high RPM, then shifting. But not flooring it then shifting. My 318 wraps up pretty quickly, and the rev-limiter is at just over 5500 RPM, so if I floor it, it will "bounce" back and forth within no time. If you want a high RPM take-off, hold the RPM steady, let the transmission engage fully (you'll easily be able to feel this), then floor it. If you are just wanted to rev the engine to make some noise (A practice I love doing all over the East Texas area - ), then be sure to take your foot out of it and allow the RPMs to fall before putting it back into Drive. Have fun!

I think you're missing the point. I'm not saying stop doing it because you're going to damage something. I'm saying it's not a problem so stop worrying about it. You've found a "problem" that isn't really a problem.
