Default Fuel Gage

I have a fluctuationg fuel gage sometimes it works sometimes not. I fill up and it registers half full but not all the time. the truck starts hard and I'm sure the problem is in the fuel pump but it's been that way for 3yrs now. The gage has been screwy since last week. My questinon is do I brake down and speend the $200.00 for the pump asembly or do you think it might be a bad ground somewhere. Thanks for any input you can share.

It's most likely in the pump itself. It's a common problem, where as the ground being bad isn't. You can check the grounds though..it wouldn't hurt.

If your truck starts hard, check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail. It might be time for a new pump anyway

My feul pump assembly is also fried. I'm gonna attempt to change mine myself. I've done it on a GMC before, so mait shouldn,t be that bad. Where can I find the part?

The fuel pump? It's in the tank Do you mean where can you find a replacement? If so, try www.makeitmopar.com if you have time to wait, or check out your local dealer/auto parts store.

Here's a write-up for changing the unit: https://dodgeforum.com/m_402587/tm.htm

The fuel level sending unit is the problem. Can I just replace it, in a '98 w/ 360, or do I need too replace the whole unit?

You need to replace the whole unit. The sending unit is not serviceable.
