Default Roters need replacing

I brought my truck in for maintenance a week or so ago and they told me I need my breaks and roters replaced because the front roters are starting to scrape. I just wanted to get some advice/ information before i bring it into a shop to avoide getting ripped off. I have a 98' Dodge Ram 2WD. How much is the average price of getting roters replaced (could you guys break it down for me please)? How about breaks? How important is it to get roters replaced, what could happen to my car if the roters get worse? The guy also mentioned new berings (I don't know what this is, and my CAT. Someone please explain so i don't get ripped off at a shop. THanks in advance for the help guys!

98' Ram....??????? What's the rest?.lol. What do you mainly do with the truck? I'll tell ya the secrets that most mechanics miss. Sometimes it's a few days before I can get back to this site, but I do check my email at least 2 x a day. Feel free to PM as well.

Good luck.

Buy a set of Bendix slotted rotors, and Duralast Gold carbon/metallic pads.(Assuming you have an Autozone or Advance Auto in your area). The critical thing to check is the caliper bushings and slides. I cannot stress enough, how important it is to make sure that the caliper has not started to corrode around the bushing. No one checks there and ultimately get suckered into new calipers. If you do all new pads and rotors, mine as well do a $4 bushing and a $6 slider pin.

Good luck.

Why carbon/metallic and not ceramics?

I prefer carbon/metallic for severe duty. I believe they are a far better composition than ceramic.

Just my opinion. My 95' has almost 20,000 on carbon/kevlar pads. With slotted rotors I still have about half the meat left on them. I paid 218.00 for a front set and 218.00 for a rear set. I wouldn't reccomend that to ANYONE.lol.

I have the EGR big brake kit and rear disc conversion. My buddy has a 96 and we put slotted rotors on his with the Duralast carbon/metallic pads. His are wearing perfect. He'll get better than 25,000 from his setup. As long as the caliper is maintained properly.

Take care.

I did OEM rotors when I did mine. They seem to do a good job.
