Default Single Or Duals?

Hey guys,

I know this is a little off topic but i wanted to know your opinion. In about 3 years i plan to trade in my 95 for a 2003-2005 dodge ram. I like this generation of rams better than the '06 ones because personally i think they look better. The headlights on the new ones don't do it for me and the new dakota is even worse! Anyways I plan on getting a 3500 Dodge 4x4 CTD but i was wondering what the difference is between singles and duals other than there are 2 more tires lol. They both look good and they both are the same load/trailer ratings right? I like the fender flares on the duals but the singles are cleaner too. I don't think duals would look as good as singles lifted and duals you can't spin the tires which can be good and bad. Just like to know what you thought. THanks

Heres what i was thinking of getting, saw this one on ebay.

Heh I don't know about that, I saw a dualie the other day (a ford), it was in front of me on backroads (like 35mph speed limit). It was a slow car, him, then me in line and when the slow car turned he took off, and when I say he took off, he FLEW. I never knew those things could do that, sure put my truck to shame. Sorry I don't have anything informative to say, but just wanted to say it might be possible :P But I also agree with you on the 2nd gen part. I really don't like how the 3rd gens look at all which makes me regret buying a 2nd gen without knowing anything about em, because whenever I'd want to get a new truck, 2nd gens are gunna be very old, so I'm stuck with what I've got.

No. I believe the dually trucks have a slightly higher load and trailer rating. They also handle gooseneck trailers better.

Do you have a reason for buying a dually truck? Plan on doing a lot of heavy towing?

Dump trailer for? Old roofing/building materials from remodeling jobs? Sand? If it's going to be roofing/construction related waste, you'll be fine with a single axle 1 ton. Most of the contractors around here, including my cousin, pull their dump trailers with 3/4 ton gassers with little issue. One outfit has a 16ft gooseneck that they pull with a 3/4 ton SRW Ford powerjoke. The only time my cousin ever had a problem with his truck not being able to handle the weight (99 SRW 3/4 ton Silverado) is when some guy loaded the trailer to the brim (it has 4' the trailer wall extensions) with sand [&:] And his trailer isn't even a gooseneck.

yeah right now i work for a guy and it's just me and him but once i go through school 3 years we're going to expand. I'm a Brick and Stone Mason and we do all sorts of fun stuff. Right now our setup is a 96' chev silverado 3500 diesel 2wd and a 5ton trailer. We carry lots of stuff all of our tools, bags of cement, mixing equipment, bedfuls of sand and we use the trailer for construction junk, hauling scaffolding and other equipment and carrying stone usually on skids. We can usually get 2 skids of stone on the 5ton trailer. Right now i do the small side jobs on weekend with my ram but when we expand i'm going to need to do all the stuff we do now. Man you should see the crazy stuff we do with the chev, it gets so overloaded everyday. I remember once we had the bed full of sand all the tools in the back it's 4 door and the trailer filled with junk. THe hitch was like 2 inches of the ground and it scraped the guys driveway near the road. Anyways you get the idea. Yeah my boss just bought a 2006 GMC Serria 3500 dually black it's real nice but i'll stay true to mother mopar for my next purchase. Also about power adders for the CTD like banks power or bully dog the programmers and intake/exhast kits are they worth the money? What kind of gains? Are they realiable or will they reduced or hurt the CTD thanks a bunch.

From what I understand, the Edge programmers are favored pretty heavily by the CTD owners. They can hurt your truck, if you crank them up too high without the right supporting mods.

The guys in the CTD section could give you more info on that.

Heres experience talking on SRW vs. DRW. If you don't have to tow very far to get to you job site, go single rear wheel. Duals are going to help alot with the stability of your trailer. It will make it alot more comfortable to drive long distances. The down side of duals is that you are going to have less manuverability and when it comes time to buy new tires you will have to buy 2 more. In my experience duallys also seem to wear tires out fast ther single rear wheel setups. This is just my experience having gone on alot of very long trips with fully loaded 30+ foot long horse trailers. Also I know this wasn't part of your question but you may also consider a manual tranny, it will be stronger than and auto IMO.

yeah i've seen them with both trannies i always thought that the autos were stronger at least for diesels. THey are 6 speeds right? I guess they're better for pulling but do the cluches wear out fast, i guess big rigs use em only they're like 15 speeds lol
