How many hours labor is fair for replacing the front joints? (I was quoted 4 hours labor)

Depends on who is doing. I can do them in under a hour.

Yeah just a little. I would say 2 hours tops for the total job. I have never had to pay someone to do it so I dont know how much a shop charges. Where are you located?

Omaha, Nebraska. I would try it myself but am afraid it might be a little over my head. You know what the local Dodge dealer wanted to replace them??? $550.00!!! This guy is saying $250-275.

Damn thats crazy. THere really is nothing to it. Just a matter of having the right tools.

a wrench, a pair of cutting dykes, a socket and a hammer... and about 45 minutes.

dont forget diff oil, plenty of penatrating oil , and a socket or two to beat the crap out of so you can nock the unjoints out.. unless you have a BJ press that doubles as a ujoint press

and are you talking about dront drive shaft unjoints or axle ujoints? not to be ignorant.. but ive heard both sets of unjoints being called "front ujoints"

I just did mine this past weekend. I'm wouldn't call my self a mechanic but it tok about 3 hours. 4 seems like a lot for a shop of any kind to do them.
