try the MMO in the crank, maybe substitue just 16 oz of it if your uncomfortable using 32 oz. I had a tick in my 5.9 motor and just 12 oz cleared it right up. made it run a tad smoother too.

another thing to mention with regards to a tick/rattle... I had my heat shield for my engine mount bent in such a way that it was hitting the mount IIRC... drove me nuts until I finally figured it out...

I used it in my 2000 which had nothing but synth since I bought it. I used only 8~12 oz which cleared up the tick, then it ran a little smoother. Teyanna (daughter) uses 1 quart with great sucess... 4 qt system in her honda) so i'd say 1 quart should also be acceptable.

that is a good point... might check the e-maifold bolts to make sure they are TORQUED to the RIGHT spec... meaning, dont over torque them. if it was an exhaust leak, you could try the Napa exhaust manifold gaskets. I used them with my gibson headers with good results.

^^^^ the heat sheild and the exhaut mani's should be checked.. the heat sheilds rattle on my truck and sound EXACTLY like a ping..and the only way i was able to narrow it down was first i duct taped my digi camera and recorded it to see how it rattles at what rpms..and it looked like it would shake at higher rpms.. like i was romping on it.

exhaust leak could also cause it...

theres alot of things you should check and i woudl check them all....

SOMETIMES if the leak has been there long enough you might be able to see a small streak of carbon build up where the exhaust gas is leaking out at.. did when i went through my first gaskets on my headers..
